Psalm 139:9-10

If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there Your hand will guide me, Your right hand will hold me fast.

Davina, King Space and the General of the Galaxy

In one of our phases of this trip, we will be putting on an English conversation evening every weeknight. The biggest of the responsibilities assigned for that was to write a skit for us to perform for 20 minutes every night we're there. And guess who the playwright is? That's right, your truly!

This is not me. This is David Tennant. But I like him, and playwrighting reminds me of William Shakespeare, and when I typed his name into Google this image came up, and he's wearing a crown and holding a flute, which ties in to my play (well, technically it's a recorder but in this play, we will be pretending that a recorder is a flute for the sake of simplicitiy and because I am the main character and I don't know how to play a flute, but I do know how to play a recorder), so now you understand why this picture is here in the first place.

We want to cover five themes while we're there:

1. Self-Esteem
2. Overcoming Obstacles
3. Temptations
4. Honor
5. Leadership

And so I set about writing a play.

And then I thought about ways to make it interesting.

And funny.

And still tie in to the original story I was thinking of.

So I came up with Davina and the Garguon! A story of a small, unskilled girl who defeats a great monster only using a few spitballs and her straw!!

This was perfect for the theme of Overcoming Obstacles!! And there could be more in the Davina saga...

Now I have fully written the first Episode "Davina vs. the Bullies", which introduces the characters. We have:

King Space

He was very upset because he lost a special medallion in Episode 1 that was given to him by a messenger, Sandman from the General of the Galaxy! The only thing that can ease his uneasiness is when Davina plays the flute for him.

Sandman

Sandman was a wise old messenger who brought people messages from the General of the Galaxy! In Episode 1, he finds King Space's medallion and gives it to Davina and he tells her that one day she will be a great hero, Lightning Girl!

Davina/Lightning Girl

Davina is a small insignificant girl who is unimportant and not very smart. When Sandman tells her she will be a hero, she's shocked! But in Episode 1, she comes across a group of bullies harassing a small child by her house. She looks at her medallion, remembers Sandman's words and saves the child by shooting spitballs at the bullies. The spitballs are all she takes in Episode 2, when she goes up against a giant Garguan that's tormenting people! King Space offers to give her his blaster, but it's too heavy for her to carry. She defeats the Garguan and overcomes him!

Orion

Orion has a really special invisibility cloak in Episode 3 that Lightning Girl really wants. She and him go to battle a monster and she makes Orion go first. At the last second she grabs the cloak from him and he gets eaten by the monster. Sandman later comes along and tells her a story of a rich man stealing from a poor man and Lightning Girl gets very upset. When Sandman tells her that's what she did to Orion, she is very repentant.

Starburst

Starburst is King Space's daughter and Lightning Girl's best friend. In Episode 4, when King Space is trying to hunt down and kill Lightning Girl, Starburst warns her to flee. Eventually, while King Space is looking for Lightning Girl, he ends up sleeping in the same cave she is hiding in! Instead of killing him, like her friends suggest, Lightning Girl steals his crown. When he wakes up, she shows him the crown and tells him that she could have killed him, but spared him because she knew he was chosen to be king by the General of the Galaxy. He admires her honor and forgives her.

Mo

Mo is Starburst's son. In the 5th and final episode, Starburst and King Space are killed in battle. The people make Lightning Girl Queen, but because she is so sad that her predecessor is dead, Lightning Girl searches the kingdom for any family members they had. She finds Mo. He cannot walk, but dreams of becoming a superhero one day. Lightning Girl begins training him and he lives in her castle for the rest of his days.
